The waterfront of the Huangpu River is colloquially known as The Bund, or Waitan (外滩). Across the river is the Puxi (east) side featuring the Lujiazui Financial District containing modern skyscrapers. Behind the river (west) are historical buildings that once housed banks and trading centers from various countries around the world.
