Day 50 – Chinese New Year

Today is Chinese (Lunar) New Year – 2015 is the year of the Goat/Sheep. There has been confusion about what the Zodiac animal is for the year. In Chinese, the animal is represented with the character, 羊, however when translated, it could define multiple animals:

  • 羊 – Generic term for Goat
  • 山羊 – Mountain Goat
  • 公羊 – Male Sheep (i.e. Ram or Buck)
  • 羚羊 – Antelope
  • 绵羊 – Sheep

I participated in welcoming the new lunar year with the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) and the Purdue Society of Women Engineers (PSWE). They had food, music, a photo booth, and a calligraphy station.

Pictured is the calligraphy station featuring the word 福(Fu), which means “fortune” or “good luck”.
