“Please Walk On The Roof”
The home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet was constructed from 2oo3-2007, and opened to the public as the national opera theatre of Norway in 2008. Oslo held a design competition, and among 350 entries, awarded architecture firm Snøhetta the contract to construct the new stage. The Opera House’s design received the Culture Award at the World Architecture Festival, and the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
The design implements an iceberg shape with a publicly accessible incline, where the museum invites anyone to walk on its roof.
