Weekly, my friends and I would travel to various bars after a long work day to unwind and participate in a night of trivia. Last week, we traveled to 500East to participate. Turns out that by the end of the evening, we were tied for first place. This was not usual as by the end of the game, we would either place dead last, second-to-last, or somewhere in the middle.

When we were told that we had to answer a tiebreaker against another team (i.e. be the first one to answer correctly), our hearts pounded. If neither team could get the question correct, it would be thrown out and another question would be used in its place. Turns out neither our team nor our opponent could answer three questions correctly.
The emcee, extremely tipsy at this point, suggested to settle the tie with a math question… who could list out the numbers of Pi to the furthest amount of digits? This time, tag-teaming was allowed.
Now, let me rewind for a brief moment… back in elementary school, a classmate and I would always “compete” at how far we knew Pi. I could only get 5 digits, assuming that would be enough to understand the value of Pi. My classmate however… was able to recite them to 100+ digits. So I should credit competition from an early age to memorize the first few digits of Pi…
Applying my memory to this question, I was able to list the first nine digits 3.141592653589793 – which led us to our first team victory!

Here’s the summary of the night, written by Mathew Miller:
I have to say, this particular quiz was the most fun I have had since I started hosting. We had a lot of good laughs especially during the trademarked sounds during round 7! I may have imbibed a bit much during this quiz as well, that 12% blackberry barleywine doesn’t really sneak up on you, IT SUCKER PUNCHES YOU IN THE FACE! We had alot of great teams and people in you guys were seriously a lot of fun and ultimately it would be As Good as it Gets and F**k Dragon that would tie for first place. It came down to who could write out Pi the furthest and Fuck Dragon would win by a whopping 6 digits!! I have to shout out to Star Wars: The Hempire Smokes Crack you won best team name in mine and Lara’s heart. I had a blast I hope you did too bring that same energy next week I loved it.
